Faith, Hope and Love Center for Street Children
The Faith, Hope and Love Center For Street Children was established in 1995 by the Free and Democratic
Bulgaria Foundation, with the British charity ChildHope UK as its partner.
The Faith, Hope and Love Center is a night shelter and a day center for temporary
placement of street children in Sofia aged between 3 and 16. On any given day, there are between 20 and
30 children who are provided with safety, shelter and security in the Center. The children receive food and
clothing, medical and health aid and take part in general education and training programs. A team of social
workers and doctors takes responsibility for their education, health and creative development. The team of the
Center also provides family conciliation services in order to improve the situation of the child's family. The
Center's main goal is reuniting the children with their families, placing them with a foster family or placing
them in an appropriate educational institution.
Over 800 children have visited and spent time at the Center. About 1/3 have gone on to school, 1/3 have been
reunited with their families and are off the streets, the rest have gone back...
From January 2005 the Faith, Hope and Love Center for Street Children is under the direct jurisdiction of The Sofia Municipality and is named a Home for temporary accommodation for children aged between 3-18.

National Information Center on the Problems of Street Children
The National Information Center on the Problems of Street Children in Bulgaria (NICOPOST) was established in 1997. This is a national databank that collects and disseminates information on runaway, abandoned and homeless children from all over the country. A monthly newsletter as well as books and brochures dealing with the issue of the homeless are distributed or e-mailed to over 400 social workers, members of parliament and various governmental and non-governmental institutions. The Center also conducts training seminars and publishes books and brochures on the subject of the homeless.
In December 2001, NICOPOST organized the Fourth National Round Table on the Problems of Street Children in Bulgaria on the topic of "Child Care Reform in Bulgaria - new rights and duties of the state institutions, local authorities and NGOs concerning street children" which provided useful conclusions for legislative purposes. Previous Round Tables were organized in 1993, 1995 and 1998.
